The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards are the Indian equivalent to the Oscars;
The IIFA Awards 2007 will take place in Yorkshire and Humber over a period of four days, from 7-10 June;
The event will consist of an awards ceremony, blockbuster world premier, film festival, charity fundraising event, film professionals workshop and global trade forum;
The 2007 event will mark the seventh year of the Awards – previous ceremonies have been held in capital cities including Johannesburg and Singapore;
The IIFA Awards will attract 28,000 visitors to the Yorkshire and Humber region from Europe, India, South East Asia and the US;
During the event visitors are expected to spend £9.5 million;
Visitors are expected to occupy 12,000 hotel rooms over a space of four days;
The IIFA Awards will be screened world-wide – bringing Yorkshire and Humber to the attention of millions of viewers;
It is expected that the event will help to establish strong links between Yorkshire and Humber and India.
