Country Focus: India

Taj MahalOverview

India is located in the southern peninsula of the Asian continent and covers an area of approximately 3.3 million square kilometres – around 13 times the size of the UK.

It has a population of over a billion people. Around 300 million of these people have consumer spending power.

Key sectors

The Indian economy has grown by an average of 8% in recent years and it has now become a major global player across a wide range of sectors.

There are opportunities for most sectors in India, some of which are aerospace; automotive; biotech; business & consumer services; construction; education & skills; engineering; financial services; healthcare; mining and pharmaceuticals.

However, there are opportunities in numerous other sectors, with many Indian businesses now looking at how they can improve and advance their own products. India welcomes foreign goods, technology and investment and the UK is in a good position to supply these entities due to the strong relationship that already exists between the two countries.

Reasons to do business with India

Although India has already undergone a significant amount of growth, it is forecast for even bigger things in the coming years. It is predicted to become the 3rd largest economy by 2032 with a population greater than that of China.

Trade between the UK and India has grown so much in recent years that India is now the UK’s largest market in the developing world.
