A Yorkshire translation company which began as a one-man operation in 2003 has grown into a global company with a turnover in 2007 of £3.2m
Gavin Wheeldon set up Applied Language Solutions after identifying a gap in the market. He now employs over 72 staff members and has eight international offices.
The company first approached UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) in 2004 for assistance in choosing a location for its first overseas office. Following the advice of a UKTI International Trade Adviser, an office was subsequently opened in Bulgaria.
As well as ongoing advisory support, Applied Language has also received assistance from UKTI via the Passport to Export programme and the Targeted Export Support Scheme (TESS).
The company has seen its achievements recognised with numerous awards, including Best International Business Award and the UKTI Best Exporter Award.
UKTI has produced an in-depth case study on Applied Language Solutions, which provides a breakdown of the support received by the company, as well as information on the company’s international activities.
