Yorkshire firm takes technology to the high seas

A company which designs and installs electronic systems for ‘Super Yachts’ has increased its turnover from £1.6m to £9m in just six years.

ANT (Advanced New Technologies) started off as a small outlet in 1987 repairing and supplying TVs but in 2001 established itself as a complete communications provider for Super Yachts and luxury homes.

In 2001, ANT had two key UK clients in the marine sector, but soon secured a number of international clients with 90% of turnover now accounted for by international trade.

The company – which has its head office in Hull – has a range of international clients, located in the Netherlands, Russia, Germany, Spain and China. Other potential markets include Turkey, Greece and Italy. The USA is also seen as a large potential market. ANT has an office in France which mainly deals with re-fit contracts and also an office in the Netherlands.

The company has received a range of assistance and support in relation to its international trade activities, including significant assistance from UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and Yorkshire Forward. This includes support through the Targeted Export Support Scheme (TESS) and ongoing advisory support.

UKTI has produced a case study on ANT, which provides a breakdown of the support received by the company, as well as general information on the company’s international activities. It also includes information on how the company has dealt with cultural issues and outlines ANT’s plans for the future.

The case study can be downloaded below.
