Harrogate based Lindam Ltd, one of the UK’s leading developers of baby products, has been recognised by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and Yorkshire Forward for its export success.
The company, which has been operating in Harrogate for the past 20 years and supplies its own brand products to leading retailers including Boots and babies-r-us received the award for ‘Most Improved Exporter’ in Leeds from lingerie entrepreneur, Michelle Mone – developer of the Ultimo bra range.
The awards, hosted by Yorkshire Forward and UKTI, recognised the achievements of companies involved in the Targeted Export Support Scheme (TESS) and the Passport to Export scheme, which both help companies begin exporting and improve their export markets and sales.
Lindam joined the Passport to Export scheme in 2005 with a view to increasing its export sales and entering new markets.
The company was supported by a UKTI international trade advisor and through the scheme was able to improve its understanding of the target customers and how to reach them.
Since 2004 Lindam has employed a new export strategy which has resulted in the company more than doubling its export turnover and developing markets in 11 new countries.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Matthew Toulson, export development manager at Lindam said: “We are delighted to receive this award, which is testament to the hard work of the company and the support we have received.
“For 2007 and beyond we plan to work our existing markets even harder and get even more from them. Our support from Passport to Export has left us better placed to do this than if we had been without.”
Simon Hill, executive director of business development at Yorkshire Forward, commented: “Companies in Yorkshire and Humber often tend to trade predominantly within the region. Although a strong domestic market is important to our economy, diversity is important to ensuring stability and continued growth.
“The Passport to Export programme and Targeted Export Support Scheme are both great ways for companies to get support in exporting, and the success of Lindam just goes to show the benefits that can be gained from accessing new markets.”
