A panel of experts and guest speakers will gather in Leeds this month for Destination America, a business and travel breakfast briefing offering information and advice for companies who wish to know how to trade successfully with North America.
The US/UK business relationship is unique. They are the world’s two largest foreign direct investors and are each the largest investor in one another’s countries. US/UK trade is worth close to $100 billion dollars each year
Hundreds of UK companies each year take advantage of what this vast market has to offer. It is a country of regional markets where variations on doing business in this highly competitive marketplace requires careful research and preparation
There are few barriers to trading with North America but there exist several challenges: language and cultural differences, travelling overseas, business location/relocation, contracts, getting paid, protecting intellectual property, insurance and product liability.
The panel of experts coming together for Destination America include Bailey Walsh & Co LLP and representatives from Crown Relocations, North America Travel Service and The Royal Bank of Scotland. Other experts on hand include representatives from Bartlett Insurance Brokers Group, British American Business Council Yorkshire & The Humber, Cobbetts LLP and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).
Amongst the guest speakers will be Steve Bolton, managing director of Scratch & Newton, a company which is enjoying success after receiving UKTI assistance on developing a business strategy for the American market.
Roger Hawes, business relations partner at Cobbetts LLP, who will be present at the event said: “This seminar provides an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in the US market to benefit from the accumulated know-how and experience of a panel of speakers drawn from a cross section of businesses but all with first hand experience of the opportunities and pitfalls of this massive market.”
Robert Myers, director of North America Travel Service, who will also offer his expertise at the event, added: “Given the levels of confusion and misinformation in regards to entry to, let along the requirements for operating on a commercial basis with and within the United States we have brought together a team of experts from all fields to provide clear insight and to answer all those questions, and have married this with the opportunity for delegates to hear directly from those who have already ventured in to business with North America and made it work!”
Destination America will take place in Leeds on Tuesday 27 November 2007.
