Regional Statistics – Quarter Four 2007

The value of exports from the Yorkshire and Humber region increased by approximately 13% in the last quarter of 2007, according to the latest UK Regional Trade in Goods provisional estimates published by HM Revenue and Customs on 6 March.

The figures show that the value of exports increased from 3,034 (in £millions) to 3,429 between quarter three and quarter four. In relation to EU exports, the value increased from 1,632 to 1,667 while non-EU exports increased from 1,402 to 1,763. The actual number of exporters grew from 3,632 to 3,738.

The value of imports also increased, from 3,971(in £millions) in quarter three to 4,093 in quarter four.

In relation to specific sectors, the value of exports from the Yorkshire and Humber increased in almost every one. The value of crude materials increased from 95 (in £millions) to 118 between quarter three and four, while the value of manufactured goods increased from 695 to 770. Only the beverages and tobacco sector experienced a slight decrease from 12 to 11, while the animal and vegetable oils sector remained the same, at 15.

In relation to specific country groups, exports to every group increased. These increases (in £millions) were: Asia and Oceania (453 to 529), non-EU Eastern Europe (45 to 55), EU (from 1,632 to 1,667), Latin America and Caribbean (66 to 99), Middle East and North Africa (157 to 210), North America (486 to 597), Sub-Saharan Africa (88 to 136) and non EU Western Europe (108 to 137).
